Nikon’s Guide Mode

The sure way to obtain desired results

An enchanting portrait against a softly defocused background, or a radiant couple surrounded by sparkling lights. Taking photos like these is easy with the D3100’s Guide Mode—in-camera guidance that shows you step-by-step how to change camera settings. Just select a Guide Mode setting that matches the scene then let Guide Mode assist. Not only will you obtain the desired results, you’ll understand how you achieved them. Guide Mode even displays sample photos so you’ll know what to expect from each setting.

Catch the decisive moment

Split-second shutter response and continuous 3 fps shooting

D3100 can shoot approximately 3 frames per second—great for capturing dynamic motion and elusive facial expressions that are a challenge for any photographer. Simply rotate the release-mode selector and shoot away. Split-second shutter response eliminates the frustration of shutter delay, capturing moments that other cameras miss.

Fast, precise 11-point autofocus system

The D3100's precision high-speed autofocus responds immediately to changes in scene or composition, maintaining tack-sharp focus to capture fleeting expressions and fast-moving sports.

Great pictures in dimly lit settings

A maximum ISO of 3200 (expandable to ISO 12,800 equivalent) lets you shoot at fast shutter speeds, reducing camera-shake blur in dimly lit scenes. Twilight and indoor shots come alive with a refreshingly natural look without the need for a tripod or flash.

Great Camera for Beginner or light second DSLR I bought this camera because I was looking for a second DSLR to my D200 and didn't want to spend a lot. I have to admit this is a nice camera to use. It's light, responsive and easy to navigate menus. I wasn't sure at first because I have been using my D200 solely for a long time and it allows me to do whatever I want at the push of a button or flip of a dial. After a initial trip and use I feel good about this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking for an easy to use DSLR. It of course doesn't give me some features that I have in my D200, but it was $399. I do have a ton of other features that I don't have in my D200, like in camera editing and scene modes for when I'm short for time and patience. I like the fact I have live preview and HD video recording. I love the preview switch and record button integration on the back. This is a great camera and will definitely be coming with me on trips. My First dSLR I have loved photography for years but I have only recently (within the last eight months) purchased my first dSLR camera. I thoroughly enjoy using this camera and learning on it. I know that I will be getting more lenses and eventually I will upgrade to another Nikon in the future after I master this one. I have recommended my camera to several people. February 17, 2013
Great Camera for the price! I got an amazing deal for this camera, a 55-200 mm Nikor lens, a tripod and memory card from Best Buy. I have taken it on a trip recently and the results were AMAZING. The camera is easy to use (even though I am still looking at the various options). I am very pleased with the picture resolution and clarity. For an amateur photographer, 14 mp is more that enough for me. I recommend this camera to anyone who wants a great and easy unit to use with phenomenal results. January 28, 2013
Great This is a great camera, Nice body, the pictures are stunning. October 12, 2012
Totally worth it I got this as a birthday gift last night and already I am impressed by it's quality. I have been a shutterbug since a young age and I only used point and shoots. They were good for a while, until my tastes changed and my views on what a great photo is. I have entered my last year of high school and I want to get into Photojournalism. The Nikon D3100 is a wonderful camera and I see it as a great beginner's camera. When my skills improve even more, I hope to buy a high end Nikon. I plan on setting up a small little studio for all sorts of shots in my basement. September 15, 2012
